For the first time in history Grand Prix tournament, the elite competition of rhythmic gymnasts, will be held in the Czech Republic. The sixth competition of nine-piece series will take place on 27th and 28th May within the GiTy Cup in Brno. The tournament started on 3rd March in Moscow and the finals will be held from 20th to 22nd October in Berlin.
Apart from the champions of individual countries medalists from European and World Championships will take part in Grand Prix. First quality competition, which is also being attracted by eighteen thousand Euro award, will meet at the start of each competition. Dominika Červenková from Máj České Budějovice and Iva Mendlíková from GiTy Brno will defend colors of the Czech Republic at Grand Prix series.
After three March Grand Prix tournaments in Moscow, Kiev and French Thias, there are two other competitions on schedule in May before the Brno tournament, the first one in Burgas and the second one in Belarusian Minsk.
A brief look at the results of three last Grand Prix tournaments says a lot about the quality of the gymnasts, who are coming to Brno. Alina Kabejevová (RUS) won all around competition in Moscow, Natalija Godunkova (UKR) was the winner in Kiev and another Russian gymnast Vera Sesinova was the best gymnast of French Thias.
Within Grand prix series the Brno competition will be followed by other competition in Holon, Israel, from 9th to 10th June and by another one in Deventer, Netherlands; and the winner of this year’s Grand Prix will be crowned at the finals of the series on 22nd October in Berlin.
